HOW TO RECOGNIZE A STROKE
(thanks, Auntie Ruth!)
STROKE:
Remember the 1st Three Letters....S.T.R.
Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.
Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:
S *Ask the individual to SMILE.
T *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)
(i.e. It is sunny out today.)
R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.
If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.
New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue
NOTE: Another sign of a stroke is this: Ask the person to stick out his tongue. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other, that is also an indication of a stroke.
A neurologist says that the trick to minimizing the damage is getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours.
Please pass this info along!!

Anniversary Of D-Day
here is a transcript of one of Ronald Reagan's speeches to commerate D-Day, this one taken from a speech he gave on the 40th anniversary in 1984, and reposted from here:
-----------------------
REMARKS AT A CEREMONY COMMEMORATING THE 40TH ANNIVERSAY OF THE NORMANDY INVASION, D-DAY
June 6, 1984
POINTE DE HOC
We're here to mark that day in history when the Allied peoples joined in battle to reclaim this continent to liberty. For four long years, much of Europe had been under a terrible shadow. Free nations had fallen, Jews cried out in the camps -- millions cried out for liberation. Europe was enslaved, and the world prayed for its rescue. Here in Normandy the rescue began. Here the Allies stood and fought against tyranny in a giant undertaking unparalleled in human history.
We stand on a lonely, windswept point on the northern shore of France. The air is soft, but forty years ago at this moment, the air was dense with smoke and the cries of men, and the air was filled with the crack of rifle fire and the roar of cannon. At dawn, on the morning of the 6th of June, 1944, 225 Rangers jumped off the British landing craft and ran to the bottom of these cliffs. Their mission was one of the most difficult and daring of the invasion: to climb these sheer and desolate cliffs and take out the enemy guns. The Allies had been told that some of the mightiest of these guns were here, and they would be trained on the beaches to stop the Allied advance.
The Rangers looked up and saw the enemy soldiers -- at the edge of the cliffs shooting down at them with machine guns and throwing grenades. And the American Rangers began to climb. They shot rope ladders over the face of these cliffs and began to pull themselves up. When one Ranger fell, another would take his place. When one rope was cut, a Ranger would grab another and begin his climb again. They climbed, shot back, and held their footing. Soon, one by one, the Rangers pulled themselves over the top, and in seizing the firm land at the top of these cliffs, they began to seize back the continent of Europe. Two hundred and twenty-five came here. After two days of fighting, only 90 could still bear arms.
Behind me is a memorial that symbolizes the Ranger daggers that were thrust into the top of these cliffs. And before me are the men who put them there.
These are the boys of Pointe de Hoc. These are the men who took the cliffs. These are the champions who helped free a continent. These are the heroes who helped end a war.
Gentlemen, I look at you and I think of the words of Stephen Spender's poem. You are men who in your "lives fought for life...and left the vivid air signed with your honor…."
Forty summers have passed since the battle that you fought here. You were young the day you took these cliffs; some of you were hardly more than boys, with the deepest joys of life before you. Yet you risked everything here. Why? Why did you do it? What impelled you to put aside the instinct for self-preservation and risk your lives to take these cliffs? What inspired all the men of the armies that met here? We look at you, and somehow we know the answer. It was faith, and belief; it was loyalty and love.
The men of Normandy had faith that what they were doing was right, faith that they fought for all humanity, faith that a just God would grant them mercy on this beachhead or on the next. It was the deep knowledge -- and pray God we have not lost it -- that there is a profound moral difference between the use of force for liberation and the use of force for conquest. You were here to liberate, not to conquer, and so you and those others did not doubt your cause. And you were right not to doubt.
You all knew that some things are worth dying for. One's country is worth dying for, and democracy is worth dying for, because it's the most deeply honorable form of government ever devised by man. All of you loved liberty. All of you were willing to fight tyranny, and you knew the people of your countries were behind you.

Shout It From The Rooftops!
You guys, here's my latest press release - it's about offline marketing of your business, and is the first one I've published from my new company, PRISM Online Money. Leave a comment and let me know what you think! -Karla-
===========================
Shout It From The Rooftops!
Wellll, that may not be the Best way for you to get the word out about your new business, but … hey … it just might work …
Here are some methods that we know WILL work, and Very Well!
Marketing By Walking Around
What’s easier? Starting up a conversation about your business, or answering a question? You may not feel comfortable starting up a sales pitch, but if someone asked you, “Hey, what’s that on your shirt?” now you can answer their question and schpiel out your elevator pitch (you do have one, right?) without missing a beat! Use these tools to help others bring the subject up:
Put your company logo, name, and website on
• Hats
• Shirts
• Attache Case
• Portfolio or Notebook
• Coffee Mug
• Gym Bag
• Car Window Stickers
• If your wallet has an outside window, put your business card in it
• Mix your business card in that little plastic thing where you keep your pictures or credit cards – people see you flipping through that all the time
(Elevator Pitch: Imagine you are in an elevator with someone, and you have just a moment to tell them about your business before they reach their floor. What would you tell them in those few seconds that would make them want to stay on the elevator with you to learn more?)
Leave Behinds
At PRISM Online Money, we provide you with customized flyers, business cards, and brochures. Post them on all of those bulletin boards you read while you wait for your coffee or ice cream or do your laundry. There are dozens of bulletin boards within a one-mile radius of your house! Check these places:
• Supermarkets
• Beauty Shops
• Coffee Shops
• Laundromats
• Pet Stores
• Specialty Supply Stores like Fabric Stores, Hobby Shops, etc.
• Internet Cafes
• Your Local EDD / Unemployment Office (hit coffee shops around here, too!)
Tried and True Advertising
Know why we still get postcards in the mail? BECAUSE THEY WORK! Here’s the secret of the postcard: Before people decide whether they will keep it or throw it out, They Have To Read It. Duh! Simple, eh? For those few seconds, you have that person’s undivided attention, and that, my friends, is what it’s all about! At Prism Online Money we give you customized postcards and mailing lists of potential entrepreneurs that are interested in what you are offering!
Know what else works still? Classified ads. Even in 2009, when we live life at the speed of the internet, you still see people sitting with their coffee and reading the classifieds. A well written classified ad will generate loads of traffic to your website! (Yes, Of Course we give them to you!)
Sold!
All good opportunities will have some product that you can give away for free as an incentive to people to check out your website. At PRISM, some of the ones that we love best are travel prizes! Who doesn’t love to travel??! We have weekend getaway certificates that we give to schools and clubs for them to use in their fundraisers and auctions, and whenever we have neighborhood meetings or coffeehouse chats we offer a free weekend getaway as a door prize, or we use some of our week-long vacation certificates as sales incentives (Join tonite and we will Give You a week at an all-inclusive resort in Jamaica!). This is a great way to get your business in front of all kinds of people!
These are just a few ways that you can get the word out about your business other than internet advertising. In other articles we talk about some of the online methods of advertising, both paid and free, that are available to you as well. Remember, the key to the whole thing is getting people curious about what you are offering, and you don’t have to be an internet wizard to do that!
Now get out there and sell, Sell, $ELL, people!

Those Wonderful Church Bulletins Are Back!
They're Back! Those wonderful Church Bulletins! Thank God for church ladies with typewriters. These sentences (with all the BLOOPERS) actually appeared in church bulletins or were announced in church services:
--------------------------
The Fasting & Prayer Conference includes meals.
--------------------------
The sermon this morning: 'Jesus Walks on the Water.' The sermon tonight: 'Searching for Jesus.'
--------------------------
Ladies, don't forget the rummage sale. It's a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Bring your husbands.
--------------------------
Remember in prayer the many who are sick of our community. Smile at someone who is hard to love. Say 'Hell' to someone who doesn't care much about you.
--------------------------
Don't let worry kill you off - let the Church help.
--------------------------
Miss Charlene Mason sang 'I will not pass this way again,' giving obvious pleasure to the congregation.
--------------------------
For those of you who have children and don't know it, we have a nursery downstairs.
--------------------------
Next Thursday there will be tryouts for the choir. They need all the help they can get.
--------------------------
Irving Benson and Jessie Carter were married on October 24 in the church. So ends a friendship that began in their school days.
--------------------------
A bean supper will be held on Tuesday evening in the church hall. Music will follow.
--------------------------
At the evening service tonight, the sermon topic will be 'What Is Hell?' Come early and listen to our choir practice.
--------------------------
Eight new choir robes are currently needed due to the addition of several new members and to the deterioration of some older ones.
--------------------------
Scouts are saving aluminum cans, bottles and other items to be recycled. Proceeds will be used to cripple children.
--------------------------
Please place your donation in the envelope along with the deceased person you want remembered.
--------------------------
The church will host an evening of fine dining, super entertainment and gracious hostility.
--------------------------

--------------------------
The ladies of the Church have cast off clothing of every kind. They may be seen in the basement on Friday afternoon.
